Senior Spotlight - Sophia Syring

My name is Sophia Syring and this 2021/2022 season is my final season with Makaroff Youth Ballet where I have been dancing for 14 years. Ever since I was a young girl, I have loved to dance. When I was nine years old, I began taking lessons at Makaroff School of Ballet where I was introduced to the true art form of classical ballet.

My favorite experience with the Makaroff Youth Ballet was sharing performances with the community. Throughout my years at MYB, my most treasured memories were our many performances of The Nutcracker. It was always a beautiful and magical experience dancing with my fellow company members. The costumes, choreography, music and props captivated the audience and was a successful culmination to all of the many hours we spent practicing and rehearsing. My last performance of The Nutcracker at the Fox Cities Performing Art Center in 2021 was extra special to me. It was such an honor to dance my dream role as the Snow Queen.

I am so thankful to have been trained by Ms. Makaroff. She not only taught me the true art form of ballet but has also influenced my life beyond ballet. She has taught me life skills such as self-respect, hard work, dedication, perseverance and self-discipline. She has pushed me to be the best dancer I can be. Her mentoring has helped to shape me into the person I am today.

I have made many close friends during my time at MYB. We have shared many laughs and tears during rehearsals, performances and bonding activities. I am blessed to have danced with these girls for so many years. The strong bond we share is one that will last a lifetime.

Even after I take my final bow, I know my love for ballet will remain. As I reflect on my years with MYB, I am grateful for all of the memories that will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you, Ms. Makaroff, my fellow company members and the MYB Board for nine amazing years that I will cherish forever!
