Makaroff Youth Ballet (MYB), a partner with Ballet, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that seeks to provide high-quality pre-professional ballet performance and education opportunities to the youth of the Fox Valley region. It is the only non-profit youth ballet company in the area.
We make classical ballet opportunities available to dancers and audiences in our community. In 2019, we received support from the Bright Ideas Fund within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region and the Mielke Family Foundation to partner with the Appleton Area School District, the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, and the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center on an educational production of “Peter and the Wolf.” This high-impact production served as a reminder of three critical ways in which our dancers' efforts meet needs in the Fox Cities:
Our community craves programming that brings classical arts to life in socially relevant, intentional ways
Models of accessibility often reveal additional gaps and barriers, even as they obviate the ones we initially wanted to address
Our company’s efforts on the stage can and should be paired with community outreach that lets them use their time in the spotlight—and their dedication to their balletic training—to help eliminate feelings of exclusion/isolation from the arts
With that in mind, our new GRACE (Gratitude and Resiliency in the Arts and Community, and Education) Initiative, is designed to support our efforts to weave outreach into all aspects of our organization so that the transformative power of ballet is accessible and inclusive. We want to enhance connections across generational, socioeconomic, gendered, and racial lines.
Thank you to all of the donors who made our 2019-2020 season possible!
